THE TENTH KARMAPA Chöying Dorjé (1604-1674) was not only leader of the Karma Kagyü School of Tibetan Buddhism but also famous as a great artistic innovator. He was best known for his unique style of painting inspired by Chinese models that he developed during his long exile on the southern Sino-Tibetan border. The Black Hat Eccentric is the first publication about this important artist and the first that focuses on the works by the hand of a single historical Tibetan artist.
